The front cover of a book entitled The Salt in the Sea by J. D. Rivers. Stylized artwork shows two men in a loose embrace, one shorter, light-skinned, and pale-haired, the taller one dark haired and darker skinned, both in casual modern-esque clothes. The taller one kisses the shorter one on the forehead, his hand clasping the shorter one's cheek. They stand before a blood-red circle with a star on it, and a brilliant blue wave surges behind them.

The Salt in the Sea by J. D. Rivers is Duck Prints Press’s next novella release! Meet Thoma and Victor, two men with complex pasts that include a previous bittersweet encounter with each other. The Salt in the Sea is a novella about building a life in the aftermath of disaster, about isolation literal and metaphorical, and about second chances. Oh, yeah, and there’s also a corpse to deal with…

Blurb:

A downtrodden ex-soldier.

After leaving the military, werewolf Victor is shunned in his civilian life. Money is tight, so when an ex-comrade offers him an easy job—getting a package from an island—he jumps at the chance.

A lost inn-owner.

When Selkie Thoma opens the door to a knocking patron, he wants to close it again immediately. Standing before him is Victor, his one-night stand from three years ago. The last thing Thoma wants is to have to explain why he left that night.

As Victor and Thoma cross paths unexpectedly, emotions flare anew. But Victor is only on the island for a week, and Thoma can’t face his past, the consequences of his decisions, or the resulting condemnation from his sea-going selkie family.

A dead body in a post office.

When a corpse is discovered, fingers throughout the community point at Victor. With time running out before justice is served, it’s on Thoma to find out the truth. Because on the island justice is deadly.

Our pre-order crowdfunding campaign for The Salt in the Sea begins April 1st 2025 (no foolin’!), with a minimum goal of $900 US. You can learn more about the campaign, and sign up for our newsletter to make sure you get notified when sales go live!

Pre-orders for A. L. Heard’s modern beer-league hockey m/m romance are now open!

Nick Porter has always loved hockey. Ever since he can remember, it’s been his favorite thing in the world. It’s too bad he never learned to play, he’d tell himself, but it was too late to do it now. Adults don’t just magically learn to skate and join a hockey team. That’d be ridiculous.

Except maybe they do? On a whim, he decides to sign up for an adult beginner’s class. He learns to skate, joins a team, and meets a really hot teammate… and it’s pretty much a disaster from there on out.

Almost three years after the debut of Hockey Bois, A. L. Heard returns with a new edition of this much-loved book! The text has been revised and streamlined, the interior appearance re-done, and we’ll be offering an e-book edition, trade paperback, AND hard cover! If your preferred flavor of m/m story is slow burn, mutual pining, and romance-with-plot, you won’t want to miss this, and the hockey hunks are just a lovely, delicious, not-to-be-missed bonus!

What can you get?

This excerpt:

We drove out of the trees into a clear patch of highway, and I sighed. The clouds were dark and green overhead, filled with snow or hail, and the patchy trees stood out sharp and black against them. A single beam of sunlight cracked through, gilding the edges of the storm break with gold.

“Nice view,” I said.

“It’s always a nice view.” “I miss it,” I admitted.

Excerpt:

I arranged a circle of tealights around an empty mason jar.

“Tell me what you’re doing,” she prompted.

“I don’t know why we put candles around everything,” I said. “But they feel right. Like a… magnifying glass, I guess. They enhance a spell.”

I poured in brown sugar. “To draw kindness and generosity to you.”

I added dried vervain. “For prosperity.”

I rolled a fresh spearmint leaf between my hands, and the sharp smell filled the air. “For luck and fortune.”

I added a single new penny, gleaming bright, and let it speak for itself.

By backing the campaign, you can learn how to make your own prosperity jar, too! Our gorgeous postcard, featuring art by Aceriee, includes the recipe!

To Drive the Hundred Miles by Alec J. Marsh stars Will, a young trans man home for the holidays, in an awesome, immersive first-person point of view. While visiting home, Will re-unites with Bea, with whom he went to high school, and they spend some time catching up…

“A degree in marketing, huh? That’s not what I expected.”
“Why not?”
She bit her lip. “I feel like only boring people go into marketing.”
“You barely know me. I might be extremely boring.”
“I’m a very good judge of character, and I don’t think you are.”
It was my turn to blush. “Wait ’til you see my weekly planner,” I said. “I color code appointments.”

“To Drive the Hundred Miles” by Alec J. Marsh (currently open for pre-orders on the Duck Prints Press website, through October 20th!) is a contemporary holiday romance novella starring a trans male main character who returns home for Solstice and Christmas to his less-than-accepting family. While navigating his relationship with them and the feminist Wiccan traditions they raised him with, he finds new magic he hadn’t expected…

Movement to my left caught my eye, and I turned to see a pale stag. He had an enormous rack of antlers that seemed to phase through the trees as he walked toward me. I stayed perfectly still until he reached me. We stood face-to-face for a moment, and then he leaned forward and blew out my candle.

“No one has come in in three hours,” she said. “And you’re right, I have better ways to spend my Christmas than working. Do you have any of that brandy left?”

I checked the inside pocket of my jacket, and the flask was still there. I handed it to her, and she added generous portions to both of the mugs, then handed me one. She took a seat in the other armchair and tucked her feet up under her.

“Well, merry Christmas,” she said.

“Merry Christmas,” I agreed with less bitterness than I expected. This felt like the ideal Christmas, I realized. Sitting in a quiet coffee shop with Bea when no one wanted anything from either of us. She was who I wanted; she made my days feel special.

A memory-stealing cult.
The ever-watchful City of Eyes.
Making small talk.

Join Droplet as she faces all these horrors and more…

Vigilante shapeshifter Droplet has trained her entire life to take down those with more power than scruples, but she still makes mistakes. When a rescue mission goes wrong, a memory-stealing cult of blood mages escapes with kidnapped captives in tow. To save them, Droplet reluctantly teams up with the outgoing, tenacious Azera. Droplet knows better than to trust a human—she made that mistake once, and that person’s betrayal scattered her community across the known world—and she can tell Azera is hiding secrets behind her sunny smile. But if they can’t learn to work together, even Droplet’s own memories could be lost.

Today, we’re sharing our last teaser before the end of the campaign!

“Subterfuge isn’t one of my strength,” Droplet admitted.

“You’re literally posing as a wealthy human businessperson, back home. What do you think that is?”

“That’s easy subterfuge. Every rich human thinks they’re better than all the other rich humans in the room. I know I’m better than all the rich humans. Nobody suspects a thing.”

Droplet, the main character of Many Drops Make a Stream by Adrian Harley (pre-orders open now!) is a shapeshifter who can take many forms. Last week, we met her goose form; today, we introduce her most intimidating dog form: Mr. Sunshine, who is a very good dog.

Droplet used the most intimidating dog form she had, more wolf than dog, her shoulder higher than Azera’s waist and mouth sporting a killer’s snarl. This was from a dog named Mr. Sunshine, who’d been so flattered by Droplet’s request to honor him by taking his form that he’d licked her whole head. But nobody needed to know that.

Many Drops Make a Stream, Adrian Harley’s debut novel, is the stand-alone first book in a series of related fantasy-mystery-heists featuring the shapeshifter Droplet and the friends and found family who work alongside her to fight the corrupt powers-that-be. Many Drops Make a Stream is rated general (adult) audiences and features shapeshifting shenanigans, a nascent f/f quarrelers-to-lovers pre-relationship, a wonderful extended cast of family and pseudo-family, necromancy and blood magic and spellwork (oh my!), and one (1) very angry goose.
