Friday Five: The Olympics (Again)
Jul. 27th, 2024 10:54 am1. Are you watching, or did you watch, the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics today?
I did! I had to leave before the end, but I watched the first hour or so. I especially liked the Marie Antoinette costume and the heavy metal, and the mezzosoprano who sang the French national anthem had an absolutely g.o.r.g.e.o.u.s. voice, she was incredible.
2. Which team has the coolest uniforms?
tbh I didn't really notice, oops. I was working while I had it on so I wasn't paying super close attention.
3. Which team showed the best team spirit during the ceremony?
The one I noticed the most was the "general" Olympic team, made up of refugees and displaced people - it had athletes from like a dozen countries. Their story really moved me and I wish them all the best in the games, and stability in their lives
4. What do you think of the Olympic Committee having decided to offer more plant-based food to the athletes, only to have them complain of not enough lean protein?
I didn't know they'd done that, I'd think it'd make most sense to let the athletes and coaches themselves request their own menus and aim to meet those needs.
5. Have you ever attended an Olympic event in person, or even a try-out?
Nope, though I'd like to. I HAVE seen Olympic athletes live, I used to go to a lot of ice skating exhibitions when I was a tween or so, I loved watching figure skating when I was younger.
